Marketing For Trades Businesses That Want National Reach
Local SEO + content + reviews + paid. The 4-channel stack that drives 80 percent of inbound.
Trade businesses have a structural advantage in marketing that almost none of them use.
The work is visual, it happens constantly, and every job produces content that is more compelling than anything an agency could design. Most of it goes unphotographed.
The asset nobody captures
Every job is a before and after.
A bathroom that was failing and now works. A slab poured. A frame going up. A repair that revealed something worth showing. This is the content that performs on every platform, and it costs nothing to capture because the work is happening anyway.
The barrier is not equipment or skill. It is that nobody on site has been asked, and there is no system for what happens to the photos.
Fix that and a trade business has more usable content than most companies with a marketing department.
Search is where the money is
Someone with a burst pipe does not scroll social media. They search, and they call one of the first results.
Which makes local search the highest-return channel for most trades, and it comes down to a small number of things.
The Google Business Profile, complete, with real photos, correct hours, correct service areas and the right categories. This is the single highest-value free asset a trade business has and most are half-filled.
Reviews, in volume and recent. Reviews are both social proof and a ranking factor, and the businesses winning local search are almost always the ones with a system for asking.
Pages for what people actually search. Not one services page. A page for each service, and for the suburbs you work in, using the words customers type rather than trade terminology.
Answer the questions you get on the phone
Every trade business answers the same twenty questions every week.
How much does it cost. How long will it take. Do I need approval. Will you need access to the neighbour's. What happens if you find something worse.
Each one is a page, and collectively they are the content that brings in search traffic and pre-qualifies the people who call. A customer who read the page arrives already understanding the process.
This is also what answer engines quote when someone asks the question conversationally, which is an increasingly large share of how people search.
Video, and the reason it works here
Trade content performs on video because the work is inherently interesting to watch.
A process nobody has seen, a problem being diagnosed, a repair being done properly. It requires no production value and it holds attention better than most professionally produced marketing.
The format that works is simple: show the problem, show the work, show the result, explain what was actually going on. Filmed on a phone, in the moment.
The person, not the logo
Trade businesses are chosen on trust, and trust attaches to a person.
The owner explaining what they found and how they fixed it outperforms any branded content the business could produce. This is the same mechanic that took the personal brand we run to over 50 million views in three months, and it applies with more force in trades because the buyer is deciding who to let into their home.
The unglamorous multiplier
Answer the phone. Reply the same day. Turn up when you said.
A meaningful share of trade enquiries go to whoever responds first, and in most markets that is a low bar. Fixing response time frequently produces more work than any campaign, and it costs nothing.
The order to do it in
Google Business Profile and reviews first, because that is where the highest-intent traffic already is.
Then the pages for the services and the questions.
Then the content capture system, so every job produces something.
Then paid, once the foundation is converting, because paid traffic landing on a weak foundation is expensive.
